Ocean City High School alumni/surf team coach, Rob Kelly just got back from a few weeks on the North Shore. He just sent me these photos and this article that they did on a local news site.
Ocean City pro surfer Rob Kelly is one of several locals on Oahu’s North Shore experiencing the swell. He saw first hand the excitement that came with the northwest swell from Dec. 7-9, and it’s something he will never forget.
“I surfed pipe the first day of the huge swell with most of the WCT (World Championship Tour) guys who were training for the Pipe Masters,” Kelly said. “It’s so hard to catch a wave when the world’s best competitive surfers are out.”
Kelly was training, shooting photos and staying in the eye of the surf media, which is heavily focused on Hawaii every December.
“(Famous pro surfer) Kelly Slater and I were both paddling for a really good wave. I was deeper so I called him off. It was the highlight of my trip - maybe even my life,” he said, laughing.
