My name is Jake Burghart, and these are some notes on my new TV show, School of Surf, which started airing in December of 2009 on Mtv2. It's about two high school surf teams, one is from New Jersey, and the other lives in Malibu. The show is shot as a documentary, not reality TV. We follows the kids through a school year comparing and contrasting their lives, leading up to an end of the year showdown. East vs West

When a guy called claiming to be from “The Journal” I instantly thought The Surfer’s Journal. I was surprised but super stoked to do an interview for our sports most prestigious publication. I was totally blown away when I realized he was from The Wall Street Journal!

While MTV’s new reality show, “Jersey Shore,” has drawn much media attention (and criticism), another series chronicling East Coast beach life quietly premiered this week. “School of Surf” follows a group of high school surfers from Ocean City, N.J. as they hunt for elusive waves and advance through a surfing contest that takes them to California. There, a golden-haired team of Malibu surf kids awaits.  Produced by VBS.TV and airing on MTV2, the series runs six episodes, and the narrative is split between the East and West coast teams.
